ZI generation

Zi Generation
OUR YOUTHS ARE IN TROUBLE.

As our society changes at an accelerating pace the virtues of our youth is decelerating.The problem affects all of our boys and girls regardless of race or ethnicity. Something has gone terribly wrong. Something must be done to fix it.
The Zi Initiative has been established to begin addressing these issues in a collaborative fashion by bringing together individuals and organizations that hold promise for transformation.
We serve as a forum for information exchange and dialogue. We help identify the most pressing issues. We help organize those who can contribute to change and facilitate collaborative solutions.
Our vanguard program in this area is Ensuring Healthy Futures for adolescent and young adult males.

Mission
THE MISSION of the Initiative is to shed light to our young boys and girls, to foster dialogue and debate about it, and collaborate on solutions with those who are committed to the futures of our nation's youth. Our goal is to accomplish this mission by partnering and building coalitions with organizations that represent the interests of girls and women, boys and men, parents and teachers and adolescent health care providers, among a host of other individuals, organizations and professionals devoted to the well being of our nation's youth.
Adult were once young men and women, who were once girls and boys. The adult that emerges is shaped by all phases of life, but most profoundly so by the experiences of chilhoodhood and adolescence. To ensure that youths lead meaningful and successful lives we must therefore focus first on boys and girls, and how they are shaped by their experiences during these periods of their lives.
Our focus is on boys and girls, from primary through to secondary education

Strategies
ZI Initiative supports a number of strategies to help improve the lives of the youth, including:
  • More research regarding youths' developmental needs and learning styles, and greater public awareness of these differences.
  • Early intervention as a means to develop literacy skills and a positive attitude about school.
  • Mentoring and greater parental and community involvement.
  • More flexibility for educators in trying to identify underlying issues and coming up with tangible sollutions.
  • Visiting schools and interacting with students in edutainment
 Strategic Plan
Overview
Zi Initiative is a groundbreaking national campaign to shed light on witnessed trends in recent years pertaining to the deterioration in the youths especially in sexuality.  This problem is evidenced by the decline in academics, motivation and engagement, social adaptation, and the increase in failure and drop-out rates, biological and developmental disabilities, socio-emotional difficulties, learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, risky behaviors and bullying and also abdicated roles by parents.
These trends first became evident in the educational setting, but it is becoming clear that it is not an isolated academic problem, but part of a more disturbing social trend.  Besides the youths themselves, this trend negatively impacts families, spouses and communities in significant ways.

Numerous theories and approaches for addressing the problem have been advanced.  To date, however, no organization has stepped forward to facilitate information sharing on this increasingly important issue.

Zi's Mission
Zi Initiative is to shed light on the trends described above, provide information on the causes, manifestations and potential solutions to them, foster dialogue about them, and to collaborate on solutions with those who are committed to the futures of youths.
The Goal
Our goal is to accomplish this mission through outreach, partnering and coalition building with communities, scholars, the media, policymakers, organizations that represent the interests of girls and boys women and men, parents and teachers and adolescent health care providers, among a host of other individuals, organizations and professionals devoted to the well being of our nation's youth, and by providing the means for communication and collaboration between and among these groups and the individuals within them.
To reach this goal, the Initiative will outsource and serve as a central source of information on both the causes of the overall problem and potential solutions to it; that is, serve as a "hub" for all who have an interest in this important subject.  The Initiative does not develop or advocate for any particular solution, but rather, facilitates dialogue on potential solutions.
Plan
Zi Initiative wishes to accomplish;
  • Launch a website and established presence on Face book, Twitter and LinkedIn;
  • Raise visibility through the Initiative's  outreach to media and related organizations;
  • Engage in outreach to a diverse range of organizations, government entities and individuals such as health and education related organizations and federal health and education agencies and officials
Overall Strategies
Zi Initiative supports a number of strategies to help improve the lives and futures of youths, including:
  • Early intervention as a means to develop literacy skills and a positive attitude about school;
  • Mentoring and greater parental and community involvement;
  • More flexibility for educators in trying different techniques to reach youths;
  • Better efforts to meet the mental health needs of youths;
  • Interacting with youths from the grassroots

PRINCIPAL ROLES

Providing Information
Zi Initiative’s audiences include parents, teachers, counselors, academics, health care providers, policymakers and the general public.  In addition to serving as a hub for information exchange among and between these various individuals and groups, the Initiative is dedicated to forging dialogue and collaboration on issues pertaining to both boys and girls health and sexuality.
Communicating
If we are to successfully address these problems, their importance must be communicated to society as a whole and to stakeholders and organizations that can contribute to solutions.  The Initiative's broad outreach is a cornerstone of this effort.
Among other things, the Initiative is developing school to school policy campaign / outreach that will comprise interactive theatre that will impact know how and information to the youths and address key issues arising and affecting.

Providing Resources
In addition to compiling information on boys, the Initiative offers a variety of resources.  These include a daily blog, tools for parents and others such as “how to” materials, and the architecture and resources for a national network of parents, teachers and others who are addressing the issue at the local level.
PROBLEM IDENTIFIED
  1. Risky Behaviors
A substantial portion of adolescent accidents come from negligence. Most high school students display a don’t care attitude..
  • Boys are more prone to be in a physical fight as girls (including fights on school property), and are about twice as likely to report having been injured in a fight.
  • Boys are more likely to have been threatened or injured with a weapon on school property
  • Use of tobacco products (including cigarettes, cigars, and smokeless tobacco) is high among adolescent
  • Alcohol use (especially episodic heavy drinking) is generally high among adolescent in schools.
  • Use of illegal drugs (including marijuana, cocaine, hallucinogens, heroin, illegal steroids, and ecstasy) is high among adolescent.
  • Boys are often initiated into risky behaviors at an early age: and rarely report their first experiences with sex, cigarettes, alcohol, and marijuana as occurring before age thirteen.
  • Adolescent are more likely to have had four or more sexual partners, and are less likely to have been tested for HIV.
  • Issues of homosexuality and lesbianism are prone to sprout from school environment
  1. Violence
It has been evidenced from our very doorsteps and communities. Youths are attracted to violence/crime as a result of idleness or lack of proper mentorship on livelihood concepts. They are victims for hire cheap politics.
  1. Bullying
  • Adolescents are more likely to be physically bullied by their peers (generally identified as other boys).
  • More youths identify themselves as bullies for esteem.
  • The stresses related to being bullied can result in missed school days, lower engagement in school (and lower grades), and feelings of depression, isolation, low self-esteem, illness, and thoughts of suicide.
  • Bullying can create a climate of "fear and disrespect" in schools that can seriously impede learning.
  • Surprisingly, students tend to believe that adult involvement in bullying situations will be unhelpful or may even aggravate the problem.
