Identify that talent....you got it!
Do you have any talent? Most people have heard of talent, and some people may believe they have talent, but defining talent might be difficult for many people? Furthermore, what meaning does talent have for the person who has it, and what does it mean to the people in that person's sphere of influence? There is another question that might be posed to the person who believes he or she is the possessor of no talent whatsoever: why don't you see the gift that you have? The truth is, all people have some talent, and there are some that have many, but the important thing for any person is to identify and develop talent that is in them and share it with the world.
How to Define Talent
Many people have a narrow view of what talent is, and many people cut themselves short as a result of a narrow view. When looking to define talent, it might be good to address the worldview of talent. The world tends to emphasize and pay tribute only to those talents that entertain and thrill. Whether it's a talent for singing or a talent for athletics, the talents that get the most praise are the talents that leave others with a sense of awe and wonder. Now, there is nothing wrong with having a beautiful singing voice, and there is nothing wrong with being a great quarterback, but talent should not be defined only by abilities to excite an audience. Such talents may have the most potential for monetary gain and worldwide fame, but talent has a much more significant meaning than multimillion shillings contracts or big weekend box office numbers.
Talent, simply defined, is intelligence. It is a natural and innate comprehension of how to do a particular task or activity well. Raw talent is a knowledge of how to accomplish something, and what someone does with that knowledge is completely up to them. There are people with a natural ability to speak and write clearly, and their communication style is clear; however, that doesn't mean further development of that natural ability isn't necessary. The study of grammar, linguistics, and style can help a natural born communicator more fully understand the talent he or she possesses, and from there they can use those tools to master all the elements of communication in a unique way. Again, talent is genius in some thing or ability.
There are many other talents, maybe even thousands or millions of them, and the aforementioned examples are some of the more meaningful talents that often get overlooked by the world and the individuals who possess them.
How Can You Develop Talent
Learning how to develop your talents is important, but first you must identify what they are. This might take some deep reflection on your part, and meditating on what your talents are isn't a prideful thing to do, especially if you are doing it with the right motivations. If you are struggling to identify what your talents are, why not ask some of the people closest to you what they think your talents are. Most people who love you will be happy to honestly reflect on your best abilities, and that can be a great way to learn more about how your talents have affected those around you. Once you have an idea of what your talents are, it's important to develop them.
The first step to developing your talents is to learn about them. Read books about your talents; read articles about your talents, and talk to other people who possess similar talents about how they have developed those talents. Enhancing your awareness of your talents will give you a clear path to use them effectively. The second step to developing your talents, which can be done simultaneously with step one, is practicing your talents. If you are a natural born writer, start writing every day. If you have a special knack for drawing, join an art class and draw regularly. Whatever your talent(s) may be, start doing what you can to develop any and all talents you have. Third, use whatever talents you have to develop new talents. There is no rule that says you can't develop talents that you may not be naturally born with. If you are great at writing poetry, but you aren't particularly great at writing persuasive essays, practice writing essays. Branching out to related areas of talent can be a great way to expand the talents you have, or, in other words, expanding the light and genius you possess.
Wrap Up
No matter who you are or where you came from, you have talent. You have a completely unique way of viewing people, things, and the world, and that view is important to helping others see a part of the world only you can. Sharing your talents is important for your personal growth and the growth of others. So, now that we've defined talent, list your talents, develop your talents, and help others see the light only your talents can shine.
